Reckless Records 10/16/20 New Releases

10/16/20 NEW RELEASES

AUTECHRE – Sign 2LP/CD (Warp)

IDM titans AUTECHRE have put out a deluge of material within the last handful of years, from live sets to radio shows to small-scale digital-only releases, but “Sign” is their first proper album-album since 2013. The duo’s remote songwriting process has never been more suited for the times of 2020, and the resulting record has a remarkable human touch to it, evolving less as a series of discrete tracks but as a whole piece. Another fantastic record from a duo that has been at it for more than three decades.

QUIN KIRCHNER – Shadows & the Light LP (Astral Spirits)

“The Shadows & the Light” is the impressive 2020 album by the Chicago musician Quin Kirchner. Inspired by some of his favorite musicians like SUN RA, Phil Cohran & Charles Mingus to name a few, Kirchner & a large crew of collaborators have made a fantastic double album of forward-thinking jazz that honors its past. Includes covers of SUN RA, Phil Cohran & Carla Bley. RECOMMENDED!

KEVIN MORBY – Sundowner LP/CD (Dead Oceans) color or black vinyl

After living in NYC & L.A. for the past decade or so, Kevin Morby returned to his home in Kansas City & “Sundowner” is the first record he’s made since his going back. Stripped-down acoustic songs recorded on 4-track that remind us of his early work. “Sundowner” is a term he reappropriated to describe the bummer feeling he often experiences after the sun goes down. Fans of Morby’s more strippped-down recordings & his influences Leonard Cohen & Dylan will approve.

LAMA LOBSANG PALDEN & JIM BECKER – Compassion LP (Drag City)

Mesmerizing collaboration between local treasure Jim Becker (CALIFONE, IRON & WINE) & Lama Lobsang Palden.Becker was seeking treatment from Palden when the Lama suggested they record an album. The friendship has now lasted 10 years & the result here is stunning, with Becker’s multi-instrumental talent on full display alongside Palden’s trance-inducing voice. Each track flows into another seamlessly with interludes of field recordings & back-masked instruments. Sometimes folky, sometimes droney, always beautiful. Put some COMPASSION in your life! For fans of TERRY RILEY, TONY CONRAD & the like.

TOM PETTY – Wildflowers & All the Rest 3LP/7LP/9LP/2CD/4CD (Warner)

Tom Petty’s beloved “Wildflowers” gets the DELUXE deluxe treatment for its 25th anniversary with 3 vinyl versions (3LP, 7LP box set or indie only 9LP box) and 2 CD versions (2CD & 4CD).  This is one of the most requested back catalog albums at Reckless & we’re excited to be able to offer a pre-order for these. We’re big fans of the album too and we can’t wait to hear all of the outtakes & alternate versions.

SPIRIT ADRIFT – Enlightened in Eternity LP/CD (20 Buck Spin) limited color or black vinyl

2020 album from the Phoenix heavy metal band SPIRIT ADRIFT. This band has always done a great job of paying respect to classic metal of the past, specifically NWOBHM & power metal & this one is no different. Melodic riffs & hooks, triumphant guitar harmonies & soaring vocals. Fans of 80’s metal & melodic hard rock will love this.

ROBERT WYATT – His Greatest Misses 2LP/CD (Domino) limited green vinyl

A wonderful, non-chronological collection of art-rock pioneer ROBERT WYATT’s best solo work, spanning from his 70s psych-folk to the fusion jazz of his 00s. This is a perfect primer to the music of one of the most adventurous and idiosyncratic songwriters of his generation.

Reckless Records 10/9/20 New Releases

10/9/20 NEW RELEASES

BUDOS BAND – Long in the Tooth LP/CD (Daptone) ltd. splatter vinyl

THE BUDOS BAND has been a stalwart for Daptone as a label, consistently making killer instrumental funk for the past fifteen years, drawing heavily from afrobeat with robust horns and complex polyrhythms. “Long In The Tooth” is a bridging of that sound and the last two albums’ SABBATH-influenced heavy psych. GET IT!

FUTURE ISLANDS – As Long As You Are LP/CD (4AD) limited color or black vinyl

The much adored Baltimore synth pop band FUTURE ISLANDS return in 2020 with “As Long As You Are.” These guys have mastered their style of electronic pop & this one is full of triumphant moments & some beautiful, chilled-out moments, specifically on the excellent track “Moonlight” which reminds us of JOY DIVISION’s classic “Atmosphere.” RECOMMENDED.

MARY LATTIMORE – Silver Ladders LP/CD (Ghostly) color or black vinyl

“Silver Ladders” is the 2020 album from the L.A. based harpist Mary Lattimore. The album was recorded & produced at Neil Halstead’s (SLOWDIVE) studio in Cornwall & the album has a haunting & still timelessness to it, like when you hear traditional songs that you know have existed for hundreds of years. Perfect music for the upcoming Autumn months.

METZ – Atlas Vending LP/CD/TAPE (Sub Pop) first press “loser edition” color vinyl

The Toronto noise-rockers METZ are back with another strong album. In your face & crisp production & as always, very energetic face melting performances. Bits of BIRTHDAY PARTY, JESUS LIZARD, JAWBOX, FUGAZI & even Chicago’s FACS jump out but these guys have always brought their own take to melodic post-punk.

MRS. PISS – Self-Surgery LP/CD (Sargent House) single-sided red & black vinyl w/ etching

MRS. PISS is the combination of CHELSEA WOLFE and the drummer JESS GOWRIE, and their first EP is a furious collection of industrial metal, centering WOLFE’s sound design and floating, gothic vocal delivery on GOWRIE’s rhythmic command which adds a fair amount of pummelling to the mix. An interesting counterbalance to WOLFE’s 2019 release “Birth of Violence”, which was more geared towards the folk end of her repertoire. It should come as no surprise that this comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

REZN – Chaotic Divine 2LP (Self Released)

“Chaotic Divine” is a welcome dose of psychedelic doom & sludge. SLEEP-esque riffage, melodic mid-tempo rock ala DEAD MEADOW, nods to space rock legends HAWKWIND & even hints of metallic grunge legends ALICE IN CHAINS. RECOMMENDED.

Reckless Records 10/2/20 New Releases

MARIE DAVIDSON & L’ŒIL NU – Renegade Breakdown 2LP/CD (Ninja Tune)

Montreal-based MARIE DAVIDSON follows up her 2018 LP “Working Class Woman” with a new band and a confident swagger. Featuring her husband (and partner in the electro-punk group ESSAIE PAS) Pierre Guerineau and Asaël Robitaille, “Renegade Breakdown” is a bold, pop- forward collection of anthems and polemics, filtering 80s house and synth-pop through DAVIDSON’s unique wit and critical eye. Really strong stuff on Ninja Tune.

ENSLAVED – Utgard LP/CD (Nuclear Blast)

The prolific Norwegian extreme metal legends ENSLAVED return with a new album for 2020. This is the first album with their new drummer Cato Bekkevold & his approach seems slightly more pummeling than their previous more-tech drummer. These guys always seem to find ways to keep things interesting which is VERY impressive 14 albums in. This one seems a little heavier all around than the last few which is totally ok with us. RECOMMENDED.

JONSI – Shiver 2LP/CD (Krunk) audiophile pressing or regular vinyl

The SIGUR ROS singer Jonsi delivers probably his most straight-ahead pop record yet on “Shiver.” Honestly we kind of need a record like this right now as it’s packed with fist pumping anthems & some great songs.COCTEAU TWINS Liz Fraser guests on “Cannibal” a track that starts off mellow but gets epic towards the end & ROBYN fans will flip for “Salt Licorice” which sounds like one of her classic hits. Jonsi/SIGUR ROS fans should approve.

LIFEGUARD – Dive TAPE (self released)

The Case family is now officially a Chicago rock dynasty. You know Brian from his time in 90 DAY MEN, DISAPPEARS, FACS & as a solo artist & now his son Asher brings it all full circle with his band LIFEGUARD. The trio are still in high school but their songs are mature & well-formed with melodic guitar melodies & jammy passages. This makes us think of everything from Touch & Go noise rock to PAVEMENT’s heavier moments. We’re looking forward to hearing more from this young band. RECOMMENDED!

KAITLYN AURELIA SMITH – The Mosaic of Transformation LP (Ghostly)

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith has made a pure new age record in 2020. Smith’s description for the record is “an expression of love & appreciation for electricity.” With the term electricity, she’s not only referring to the voltage flowing through her synthesizers but the electricity required in the body for movement. Bubbly Buchla sounds, swaying strings & deep drones that all together make for a listen that feels truly healing. RECOMMENDED.

SUFJAN STEVENS – The Ascension LP/CD/TAPE (Asthmatic Kitty) clear or black vinyl

Recently Sufjan Stevens moved from NYC To the Catskills & while his trusty acoustic instruments were in storage he wrote & recorded the music that would become “The Ascension” with synthesizers & a drum machine. Though electronic, these are still Sufjan Stevens songs & the album is a dense 2 hours of danceable electronic pop, lush synth ballads & even some experimental/drone leaning moments.

SUMAC – May You Be Held 2LP/CD (Thrill Jockey) limited blue vinyl

SUMAC returns with their fourth standalone record, as they continue to push the boundaries between sludge, noise and free improvisation. This should appeal both to fans of heavier doom like YOB or THOU, as well as PSF-style noise a la their frequent collaborator KEIJI HAINO.

Reckless Records 9/25/20 New Releases

BILL CALLAHAN – Gold Record LP (Drag City) now on vinyl!

Just a little over a year after 2019’s excellent “Shepard in a Sheepskin Vest”, Bill Callahan is back with the aptly titled “Gold Record”. This time around Bill brings in even more colorful instrumentation & an expanded musical vocabulary- with mariachi trumpets & guitars, even cowboy whistles shifting in & out of focus to a near psychedelic effect. Every song has a story to tell, with Callahan’s free-wheelin’ & wry vocals reminding us of the great storytellers like TERRY ALLEN & KRIS KRISTOFFERSON. The record also contains some ‘gold’ Callahan lyrics, including “it’s almost beer-thirty”, “…with eyes like honey-drunk bees”, & of course the introductory line, “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash”. As always, on Drag City & recommended!

IDLES – Ultra Mono LP/deluxe LP/CD (Partisan) “vortex” vinyl, + some ltd. signed prints!

As far as contemporary comparisons go, Bristol’s IDLES hews most closely to Detroit band PROTOMARTYR. These similarities are pretty striking, both in terms of the bands sonic qualities (both have punchy and muscular rhythm sections joined with feedback wall guitars and pointed shout-speak vocals) and in terms of thematic subjects (alienation, anti-capitalist disillusionment, navigating toxic masculine tendencies). What really separates these two bands – apart from nationality – is their outlook. Whereas PROTOMARTYR’s music is dour, IDLES seeks to provide their audience with uplift, and both of these expressions of our modern existence can be poignant and evocative, just in radically different ways. “Ultra Mono” continues right where “Joy as an Act of Resistance” left off, joining pummeling riffs with anthemic declarations of self-love. Whether that speaks to you is reflected in your own emotional life. And if so, this is another deeply rewarding IDLES LP.

KATE NV – Room for the Moon LP (RVNG)

The Russian experimental musician KATE NV returns with a new album in 2020. Her previous album was a more experimental affair, made on the legendary Buchla synthesizer but this one is more like her debut with rhythmic grooves, heavily gated drum sounds & a somewhat stream of consciousness singing style. This reminds us a lot of 80s Japanese pop like MARIAH & YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA & avant garde new wave like Grace Jones. RECOMMENDED

LOMELDA – Hannah LP/CD (Double Double Whammy) pink vinyl

Channeling the same open-hearted energy of songwriters like ALEX G, JULIA JACKLIN and ADRIANNE LENKER of BIG THIEF, Texas’ LOMELDA is able to craft an album that is at once both intimate and grandiose. The tracks on this aptly titled record focus on the lead singer and songwriter Hannah Read, touching upon her feelings of isolation, regret and manic joy. These songs are often structured elliptically, using the patterns to build dynamic change in the arrangements with tape effects, tasteful keys and ragged electric guitar, all in a way that feels effortless in its execution. RECOMMENDED.

MAKAYA McCRAVEN – Universal Beings E & F Sides LP (Int’l Anthem)

Much like he did for 2015’s “In The Moment”, MAKAYA McCRAVEN adds an addendum to his pond-crossing album “Universal Beings”, again featuring recordings from Chicago, London, New York and LA with a cast of fellow jazz luminaries. McCRAVEN’s track record is spotless, and this is yet another essential get on Int’l Anthem!

BOB MOULD – Blue Hearts LP/CD (Merge) limited tri-color Peak Vinyl edition

A year after the cheerful, aptly titled LP “Sunshine Rock”, BOB gets pissed off again with “Blue Hearts”. This is some of the most overtly political music of MOULDs career, digging into the deepening unrest and divides within the United States that have come to the forefront in the last four years (and especially in 2020). And “Blue Hearts” also explores some of MOULD’s past struggles, such as his time as a closeted gay man in the 1980s. Recorded at Chicago’s Electrical Audio, this is yet another bracing, heavy record from the punk legend and comes obviously RECOMMENDED.

CARLOS NIÑO & MIGUEL ATWOOD-FERGUSON – Chicago Waves LP (Int’l Anthem)

This impromptu set from drummer CARLOS NIÑO and multi- instrumentalist MIGUEL ATWOOD-FERGUSON was recorded at the Co-Prosperity Sphere in Bridgeport back in late 2018. The pair was there to help open for JEREMY CUNNINGHAM and his “Weather Up There” album, and they took advantage of the space and the energy to concoct this swirling, meditative piece of spiritual jazz. With NIÑO’s percussion and sound design backing up ATWOOD-FERGUSON’s affected violin, “Chicago Waves” is a document of an increasingly vital music scene with its roots here in Chicago. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

PRINCE – Sign O’ The Times 2LP/4LP box set /13LP box set/ 8CD box set, CD/ 3CD

The digging in Prince’s vault continues with this bonkers reissue campaign for his legendary 1987 album. First ever remaster with multiple versions including the original album & multiple deluxe versions with previously unreleased material & some live recordings.

Reckless Records 9/18/20 New Releases

9/18/20 NEW RELEASES

ARCA – &&&&& LP (Pan)

The 2013 mixtape by the Venezuelan producer has been reissued by Pan. ARCA has worked with Bjork, Kanye & Frank Ocean to name a few & has released some really strong albums since then. This is more minimal & straight-ahead than the most recent release “Kick I” but no less engaging.

SARAH DAVACHI – Cantus, Descant 2LP/2CD (Late Music) limited clear vinyl edition

The talented, prolific composer SARAH DAVACHI releases her fourth album of 2020, and first on Warp imprint Late Music, as an exploration of drone using the pipe organ. DAVACHI traveled to churches in Chicago, LA, Vancouver, Amsterdam and Copenhagen to record each of the organs within and capture their subtleties and idiosyncrasies. These compositions are adorned with minimal arrangements of piano, Mellotron, synthesizer, strings and on occasion her own voice. A fantastic drone collection that reminds us of KALI MALONE’s spartan organ music. RECOMMENDED.

DEAR NORA – Three States: Rarities 1997-2007 3LP box set (Orindal)

Vinyl reissue of the 2008 career spanning compilation CD by the Portland indie-pop group DEAR NORA led by Katy Davidson. It’s no surprise that DEAR NORA has found a new audience as bands like BEACH BUNNY, Phoebe Bridgers, JAPANESE BREAKFAST, JOYCE MANOR & so many others have become incredibly popular writing songs in a similar style. Limited & recommended.

MARTIN DENNY- Exotica LP (Jackpot) limited edition color vinyl reissue

MARTIN DENNY- Hypnotique LP (Jackpot) limited edition color vinyl reissue

MARTIN DENNY- Quiet Village LP (Jackpot) limited edition color vinyl reissue

The late 50s albums by Martin Denny, the father of the “Exotica” movement, are available once again this time on limited color vinyl on Jackpot Records. Lounge/tiki records seem to have a resurgence every 10 years or so & after Numero released their excellent “Technicolor Paradise” compilation a few years back it seemed like people were ready to dig in again. There’s a reason these records are considered classics so there’s no time like the present to get loungey! RECOMMENDED!

MJ GUIDER – Sour Cherry Bell LP/CD (Kranky)

The New Orleans musician Melissa Guion returns to Kranky as MJ GUIDER. We loved the first album & its nods to greats like COCTEAU TWINS. There are similar moments here but this one is darker & more mysterious, at times like a techno 12″ played at 33RPM & a cavernous sound at times, like standing in an alley outside a dance club at 4AM & hearing the muffled music from inside. RECOMMENDED.

MUSICA TRANSONIC – Musica Transonic LP (Black Editions)

Black Editions continues their fantastic vinyl reissue campaign with this fuzzed out classic featuring members of ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE, RUINS & HIGH RISE. Like HIGH RISE, these recordings are totally blown-out & there’s tons of furious soloing & heavy grooves. TOTALLY MIND-BLOWING & RECOMMENDED!

VALIUM AGGELEIN – Black Moon LP (Numero Group)

Right around the same time the San Jose band DUSTER recorded “Stratosphere”, they recorded this more spaced-out album under the VALIUM AGGELEIN moniker. This is in a similar slowcore style to DUSTER but more instrumental leaning & jammy. If you’re into DUSTER & stuff like BEDHEAD & Chicago’s ZELIENOPLE then you need to check this out.

RUN THE JEWELS – RTJ4 2LP/4LP DELUXE ED./CD/TAPE (BMG) on magenta vinyl or     indie only clear/pink, the 4LP deluxe is VERY LIMITED

El & Mike’s 4th LP together is putting them in the Hallowed ranks of the Greatest Hip Hop Duos in the history of the game. There’s nothing difficult to understand about the die-hard following they’ve built, or the amazing chemistry they display on these records. Both are MCs’ MCs, the kinda guys who hear a beat & tear into it like hungry bears & with El-Producto’s ability to craft some of the most bombastic, bass heavy, speaker blowing beats this side of the Bomb Squad, they find each beat here thick & juicy. Here’s a final survey for you if you’re trying to decide whether or not you want to get this record: Do you like dope rhymes? Do you like dope beats? V/A – Soul Love Now: The Black Fire Records Story 1975-1993 2LP/CD (Strut)

Absolutely bangin’ compilation from Strut, covering one of the most important black-owned independent labels in the US: D.C.’s Black Fire. Showcasing a mixture of spiritual jazz, soul, disco & African funk, Black Fire was responsible for some of the biggest grails in album collecting, including underground classics from ONENESS OF JUJU, EXPERIENCE UNLIMITED and WAYNE DAVIS. These tracks represent some of the best this label had to offer all in one place. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Reckless Records 9/11/20 New Releases

9/11/20 NEW RELEASES

CRYPTIC SHIFT – Visitations From Enceladus LP (Blood Harvest)

CRYPTIC SHIFT is a self-proclaimed “astrodeath” band from the UK & this concept album about a young space traveller is one of the coolest metal albums we’ve heard in a long time. The album opens with a BONKERS 26 minute track with 6 sections. Similar to contemporary greats like BLOOD INCANTATION & TOMB MOLD, these guys are technical & proggy (complete with insane Jaco esque fretless bass) but these guys lean into the sci-fi themes even harder than BLOOD INCANTATION. Fans of 80s thrash legends VOIVOD, the above mentioned bands & VEKTOR will eat this up. One of the best metal records of 2020!

SAM PREKOP – Comma LP (Thrill Jockey) white vinyl

An interesting detour for the SEA & CAKE frontman, seeing him explore beat programming and modular synth work that makes much of the arrangement composed through chance. A wonderful record that borrows a lot from the beat experiments of the Chicago free jazz scene!

ASHA PUTHLI – Asha Puthli (Mr Bongo)

Fantastic reissue of this 1973 album by this Indian born singer who would go on to become a popular figure in the NYC Studio 54 scene. Her song “Space Talk” has been sampled by many hip-hop artists including DILATED PEOPLES & NOTORIOUS B.I.G. & she sang on Ornette Coleman’s “Science Fiction” album. This album features mostly covers & one original & the songs are a blend of soul, jazz & pop with a pretty steamy vibe all around. Fans of everything from Betty Davis to Solange to Carly Simon will love this. RECOMMENDED.

SIR JOE QUARTERMAN & FREE SOUL – Sir Joe Quarterman & Free Soul LP (Mr. Bongo)

Much appreciated reissue of this politically fueled funk masterpiece from 1973 by the D.C. based singer Sir Joe Quarterman & FREE SOUL. Heavy funk with a big horn section, some fuzz guitar solos & smart lyrics. Fans of Sly Stone, FUNKADELIC etc….will approve.

Reckless Records 9/4/20 New Releases

9/4/20 NEW RELEASES

AESOP ROCK – Float: 20 Year Anniversary Edition 2LP (Rhymesayers)   Limited blue, yellow of green vinyl

One of the classics of early 2000s hip-hop,The now legendary album “Float” by AESOP ROCK, is back in print on 3 different limited edition vinyl colors for its 20th anniversary. RECOMMENDED!

BLONDE REDHEAD – Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons: 20th anniversary LP (Touch &  Go) limited 180GRM pink vinyl with alternate cover art

How can it already be 20 years!!?? In celebration, Touch & Go has reissued a limited edition version with new cover art on pink vinyl. BLOND REDHEAD has an amazing discography but this is definitely one of our favorite ones. RECOMMENDED!

NAKED ROOMMATE – Do the Duvet (Trouble in MInd) limited cherry red vinyl

Minimal but danceable post-punk from this Berkeley based band. Very rhythmic songs with great synth production, tons of dubby delay etc…Fans of ESG, LIQUID LIQUID, Anika, BEAK> etc… will love this.

PHEW – Vertical KO LP (Disciples)

Japanese avant-garde luminary PHEW leans into minimal wave and post-punk with her 2020 release Vertical KO. Working on her own for the first time in a few years, PHEW layers vocal samples, spoken word, tumbling drum machine rhythms, murky modular synths and field recordings in one of her strongest works yet. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED experimental music from one of the best living musicians and collaborators ever to do it!

ROLLING STONES – Goats Head Soup LP/2LP/4LPdeluxe/3CDdeluxew/posters

2020 remix & half-speed master of possibly the most under appreciated ‘Stones albums, “Goats Head Soup” from 1973. Mick, Keef & the boys were always thought of as bad boys, especially compared to their rivals THE BEATLES, but we know now a lot of that was myth. But on this album the weariness of fame and the road, drug use, the fall-out of Altamont etc… seems to have creeped in & permeated these songs. There aren’t a lot of outtakes for their albums usually but this one has a decent amount including a mostly unknown track with Jimmy Page called “Scarlet” which is just bonkers if you think about it. RECOMMENDED.

OTHER IMPORTANT NEW RELEASES

Reckless Records 8/28/20 New Releases

8/28/20 NEW RELEASES

DAVID BLUMBERG – On&On LP (Mute)

“ON&ON” is the excellent record by the former YUCK front man Daniel Blumberg. These stark songs backed by violin, double bass & drums by Jim White of DIRTY THREE have an honesty & effortlessness to them that is difficult to achieve in our opinion. This makes us think of Jason Molina, Jeff Buckley & David Berman who was a mentor to Blumberg while making the record. RECOMMENDED.

JOHN CARPENTER – Skeleton 12” (Sacred Bones)

The horror master John Carpenter returns with his first new, non-soundtrack music since 2016. “Skeleton” is an updated track in the style that you love with a slight techno vibe & some gritty guitar from Daniel Davies. EXCELLENT STUFF OF COURSE.

JESSY LANZA – All The Time LP/CD (Hyperdub) limited pink vinyl

Following up 2016’s “Oh No”, Canadian singer/producer JESSY LANZA further dives into playful, house-inspired pop. There’s a tension between the bright bounce of this music and the bracing anger of a dissolving future brought on by the 2020 pandemic, and this can at times sound like CARIBOU or MORGAN GEIST, with whom she’s worked with in the past. “All The Time” is a step into more pure pop, but the acid R&B is still very present.

THE MICROPHONES – MICROPHONES IN 2020 LP/CD (P.W. Elverum & Sun)

If you’ve been following Phil Elverum’s life over the past few years then you know he’s been through a lot. But now deep in 2020, we’ve ALL been through a lot & this record might help some of us deal with that. Elverum has re-started his adored MICROPHONES project with a 45 minute song. It starts with an acoustic riff that repeats for almost 8 minutes before he gets to singing. The song is like a short story about his life as a musician or a lengthy journal entry. Drums, distorted bass & guitar, piano, drones & various other instruments come in & out but mostly the song is based around the same acoustic riff. Lengthy conceptual songs like this can go very wrong but this definitely works. RECOMMENDED.

BRETT NAUCKE – EMS Hallucinations LP (American Dreams)

The always reliable Chicago based experimental musician Brett Naucke recorded these pieces at his residency at the famed Stockholm Elektromusikstudion in 2019. Recorded on the legendary Buchla 200 series Analog synthesizer, Naucke has done a fantastic job of creating a heavy, electronic space for us to lose ourselves in during pandemic times.

ANGEL OLSEN – Whole New Mess LP/CD/TAPE limited “clear smoke” with free 7” while supplies last or black vinyl

Though this might seem like a pandemic record, This record of stripped down versions of the “All Mirrors” songs was originally recorded at Phil Everum’s (MICROPHONES/MT. EERIE) Unknown studio in Washington back in 2018. These versions were originally intended to be released side by side with “All Mirrors” but it sort of makes sense now that she decided to hold them back. Recently the Chicago ex-pat has discussed in interviews that she’s backing away from some of the more visible aspects of being a “rock star” so a return to her more minimal songwriting style makes sense. We’re just happy that she decided to release these amazing versions. RECOMMENDED OF COURSE!

.KELLY LEE OWENS – Inner Song LP/CD limited white or black vinyl“Inner Song” is the 2nd album from the London based musician Kelly Lee Owens. This is a nice blend of the techno production she’s become known for & some R&B tinged electronic pop mixed in.

POLE – 1 LP (Mute)

POLE – 2 LP (Mute)

POLE – 3 LP (Mute)

The now legendary first three albums by POLE are available once again!!!! These are the first vinyl reissues in almost 20 years& it’s welcome because the originals are difficult to find. These albums caused quite a stir back then with their stark, monochromatic artwork that perfectly complemented the glitchy, minimalist, dub influenced electronic music. RECOMMENDED.
