In a world that seems fairly bleak at the moment, Chicago Rock N’ Roll Trio DEHD are trying to keep an eye towards optimism. On Blue Skies, their first set for Fat Possum, there’s a feeling of moving forward. What sadness is in these songs is something not to be forgotten, but to work through, because on the other side might be something pretty cool. These songs are sophisticated & intricate, but they’re also reaaalllly fun.
LADDIO BOLOCKO – ‘97-’99 3LP box set (Castle Face)
LADDIO BOLOCKO was a late 90s noise/post rock band from NYC. There was definitely a buzz about them at the time & they were often mentioned alongside bands like TURING MACHINE, SLINT etc… Their sound was rooted more in repetition & noise though like sonic explorers THIS HEAT & even TRAD GRAS OCH STENAR. This band definitely deserves a revisit. RECOMMENDED.
KAITLYN AURELIA SMITH & EMILE MOSSERI – I Could Be Your Dog/I Could Be Your Moon LP (Ghostly) limited color or black
Brilliant collaboration between the contemporary new age synth experimentalist Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith & Emile Mosseri best known for his score to the film “Minari.” Uplifting synth vignettes that veer into an almost BEACH HOUSE direction at times.
JON SPENCER & THE HITMAKERS – Spencer Gets Lit CD (In the Red) vinyl coming soon
JON SPENCER returns to where it all began with his band THE BLUES EXPLOSION, In the Red Records. This is a new band called THE HITMAKERS that features Bob Bert who not only drummed for Spencer’s PUSSYGALORE but also was behind the kit in the original SONIC YOUTH lineup. Super fun & blown-out rockers that will definitely get Jon Spencer fans excited again.
