This 2LP set is firmly rooted in 20th century minimalism ala Terry Riley, Laraaji & Steve Reich, 70's kosmische via CLUSTER & Klaus Schulze. The story of the Black Keys, Akron, Ohio natives who have done more than endured - they have flourished, would be a rags to riches story if their career was a made-for-tv feature. Not unlike fellow Grammy nominees, indie to major jumpers, (credit) car(d) commercial artists, Arcade Fire, they started with KILLER debut album's and both band's snow-balled into full-fledged sensations. "Funeral" seems to be on the path to becoming a contemporary classic and "The Big Come Up" could be deemed the same in the garage circuit. Revel that the Black Keys can both play the United Center here in Chicago and still write heavy, even humorous (at their own expense), garage rock in the same vein as Americana-rock pioneer Tom Petty, glam rocker T. Rex or fellow garage duo the White Stripes.

Everybody likes a good garage rock compilation right? Sometimes the best ones are the comps that sound like they could be an album by one incredibly creative band. BLACK LIPS are kind of the reverse of this concept, as a band their albums can sound like a great garage compilation and this is more evident than ever on their great 2011 album "Arabia Mountain." This is their most polished sounding album yet due to the band bringing in Mark Ronson for production duties. Fans shouldn't fret, no matter what BLACK LIPS seem to do it all comes out scrappy & damaged sounding anyway. We expect that the vintage sounds that Ronson put to tape are exactly what the band hoped for & it's all remarkably successful. The garage resurgence continues with BLACK LIPS at the head of the pack.

First ever stand alone reissues of the classic mid 90s albums from BLONDE REDHEAD. These versions were included in the now out of print box set on Numero & we're very thankful that they've made the proper albums available again. These records sound incredibly fresh today with obvious nods to noise Gods (& Goddess) SONIC YOUTH (the albums were originally released on Steve Shelley's Smells Like Records) but with their own unique take on alternate tuning art rock. AS GOOD AS THEY GET!

NOT METAL IN THE METAL SECTION ALERT!!! Denver's BLOOD INCANTATION got the metal world in a tizzy when they announced that they're next one was going to be an all ambient album. This really shouldn't surprise anyone that's a fan of the band though since guitarist Paul Riedl has released ambient albums as HOVERKRAFT not to mention that when the band stopped through the store their purchases consisted of mostly horror soundtracks & psych records. BLOOD INCANTATION records have always been heavy on atmosphere so deep synth journeys ala TANGERINE DREAM/Klaus Schulze early TANGERINE DREAM makes sense to us! RECOMMENDED.

Denver's BLOOD INCANTATION continue to push the boundaries of metal with their 2024 album "Absolute Elsewhere." The album starts off with some pretty traditional death metal but it quickly becomes apparent that they're on their own ship hurtling through the cosmos. Two side long tracks that explore progressive death metal, VOIVOD esque sci-fi metal, tasty David Gilmour style soloing along with other Floyd-isms, RUSH, nods at Klaus Schulze & modern bands like ZOMBI. This is one of those albums that's worth spending some time with, headphones on, while perusing the brilliant artwork & totally spacing out however you like to do that. RECOMMENDED.
