SECULAR MUSIC GROUP
VOLUME 1
 cover
Love All Day
This is the debut record by the SECULAR MUSIC GROUP courtesy of the Chicago label Love All Day. A nice mix of late 60s/early 70s Blue Note, 60s/70s spiritual jazz & 20th Century classical minimalism. Group member Chistian Ruggiero is a successful composer for film & television so it's not surprise that there are also elements of library music & film scores by the great Quincy Jones & POPOL VUH. RECOMMENDED!

COLA
DEEP IN VIEW (BLACK-IN-RED VINYL) (2024 REPRESS)
 cover
Firetalk
Borne from the end of OUGHT, Canadian post punk trio COLA picks up where the previous band left off with tense, skeletal structure, but with a darker, sleeker motorik sensibility. Lead singer Tim Darcy's voice will be instantly familiar, and this should slide into the shelf near your OUGHT records no problem. Superb!

New LP $23.99
DIRTY THREE
LOVE CHANGES EVERYTHING (RED VINYL)
 cover
Drag City
"Love Changes Everything" is the first new album from the legendary Aussie trio DIRTY THREE in 12 years. Warren, Jim & Mick have been busy during that time with many other projects. Warren with NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS & soundtrack work, Jim with XYLOURIS WHITE & many other collaborations & Mick collaborating with others as well. In many ways this record seems less arranged & more improvised than previous DIRTY THREE albums. It's all SUPER loose but it works very well. Very glad they're back. RECOMMENDED.

New LP $27.99
YOUNG, NEIL & CRAZY HORSE
EARLY DAZE (CLEAR VINYL)
 cover
Warner
Early Crazy Horse fans rejoice!! These previously unreleased recordings feature the line-up from the legendary 1970 Fillmore East concert that included Danny Whitten on guitar & some lead vocals. These takes have a really loose feel to them & some alternate arrangements. Anything that we've never heard from this legendary era would have us drooling & yes we are drooling. RECOMMENDED.

SOFIA BOLT
VENDREDI MINUIT
 cover
Born Losers
This is the 2nd album by the talented Los Angeles via Paris artist Amelie Rousseaux. Jangly guitar songs with baroque pop moments. Think Velvets, GALAXIE 500, Twin Peaks roadhouse dreamy pop, Francoise Hardy, STEREOLAB & some occasional furious moments that dip into TELEVISION. This is a really deep record that reveals itself more & more with repeat listens. RECOMMENDED.

UNIFLORA
IN THE DOOR (OUT THE DOOR) B/W HELLGIRL
 cover
Charm Co-op
First vinyl release from local heatseekers UNIFLORA, whose "Plastic Sturgeon" cassette we (and you) liked. They seem kinda linked to the "Hallogallo" bag along side other favs LIFEGUARD, HORSEGIRL, etc., but I'm not 100% sure because i don't get out much. Anyway they're younger than you, they play angular post-punk better than your band, and they're part of the reason that Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson has named 2024 "The Year of Post-Punk" (This is true.) You probably already know that you like this. First release on new label/worker's cooperative CHARM CO-OP.

APHEX TWIN
DIGERIDOO (2X12" EXPANDED)
 cover
R&S
This 1992 EP has been unavailable for over 20 years & it's now been expanded for this 2024 reissue. "Didgeridoo" is regarded as one of the finest moments in Richard D. James' ridiculously stacked discography. Supposedly he wrote the track to tire people out dancing at the end of raves in Cornwall. At over 7 minutes, this heavy track actually tracked in the U.K. back then. We're really stoked to have this back in the racks again. RECOMMENDED.

FINOM
NOT GOD (RED VINYL)
 cover
Joyful Noise
FINOM or the artist(s) formerly known as OHMME return with a new album "Not God" in 2024. The extremely talented duo of Macie Stewart & Sima Cunningham are deeply entrenched in the Chicago music scene but FINOM is clearly their baby. Produced by Jeff Tweedy with his son Spencer playing drums, "Not God" perfectly displays Macie & Sima's abilities as players & songwriters. Hints of THE ROCHES, SPARKS, B-52s & even ESG. Another great one from these gifted Chicagoans.

MACKAY, BILL
LOCUST LAND
 cover
Drag City
The prolific Chicago based guitarist Bill Mackay is back with a new one in 2024 called "Locust Land." We're not sure if Bill was aware of the incoming 2024 locust invasion or not but the title certainly seems prescient. This one has some nice variety with John Martyn-esque solo tunes, jammy instrumentals & nods at POPOL VUH. RECOMMENDED.

SHELLAC
TO ALL TRAINS
 cover
Touch & Go
It's a surreal time. Just a few weeks ago we were excited about getting the first SHELLAC album in 10 years. Now we all know it's their last one. Back in 2019 the band was kind enough to play at Reckless in honor of our 30th anniversary. Most of their set was made up of instrumentals that we can all hear now on "To All Trains." Steve, Bob & Todd really made it worth the wait. Inventive arrangements, instantly memorable riffs, mind boggling drum ideas, that dry SHELLAC wit & of course an amazing recording. A Fitting end to one of the best bands of the last 30 years.
