The debut release on William Basinski’s Arcadia Archive series. A 40 minute drone piece made from a recording of Basinski playing piano in the 70s cut up & filtered through a bunch of effects. As beautiful & haunting as you’d expect. RECOMMENDED.
SIMA CUNNINGHAM – High Roller LP (Ruination Record Co.) signed
Sima Cunningham, the talented Chicagoan & member of FINOM delivers her debut solo album “High Roller.” Featuring her band mate Macie Stewart & live band member Spencer Tweedy on drums, Cunningham’s solo work is similar to FINOM with complex melodic ideas that jump from folk rock to glammy pop. This is a logical extension from her work with FINOM & fans will be really excited to hear this. RECOMMENDED.
ORANSSI PAZUZU – Muuntautuja LP/CD (Nuclear Blast)
Finland’s enigmatic ORANSSI PAZUZU continue to teeter on the edge of the boundaries of metal with their 2024 album “Muuntautuja.” Dark hard rock with psychedelic synths & an abrasive industrial metal scuzz drenching everything. This band’s records are always worth checking out & this one is no different.
TOE – Now I See the Light LP (Top Shelf)
Nine years after the release of 2015’s “Hear You”, Japanese math-rock quintet TOE return for their fourth full length LP. Gentle tonal textures, frenetic math rhythms and midwest-emo-inspired guitar wizardry are everywhere to be found here. An excellent return from this consistent, long-running band!
WARM HUMAN – Hamarita LP (Secretly Canadian)
Chicago’s Meredith Johnston is back with a new album as WARM HUMAN. Intelligent dance pop with some dark & self deprecating but often hilarious lyrics. There’s a sort of frantic feeling to this record that works as a unique backdrop to the catchy dance tunes.
