NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS – Wild God LP/CD
Nick, Warren & the band are back with another glorious album “Wild God.” This one has a loose almost improvised & stream of consciousness feel with a large sound. Mostly melodic piano driven songs with washy backgrounds that must be influenced by Warren Ellis’ recent return with his band DIRTY THREE. This feels more uplifting than the grief-stricken “Ghosteen” like a new chapter has begun. Features some bass by RADIOHEAD’s Colin Greenwood. RECOMMENDED.
DAMON LOCKS – 3D Sonic Adventure LP
This is the debut solo album by the talented Chicago artist Damon Locks. This music is only available on LP in a limited pressing with no streaming or internet presence. Locks’ intention was for the listener to seek out the music at an actual record store instead of just clicking a button like most of us do these days. Unlike the BLACK MONUMENT ENSEMBLE records, his solo work is more sample based & experimental, with occasional beats & synth excursions. Another excellent record from our friend Damon. RECOMMENDED.
ODA – ODA LP (Riding Easy)
Riding Easy brings us a reissue of a legendary hard rock private press beast by the California band ODA from 1971. The band was influenced by greats like THE WHO, LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE etc… & featured guitarist Randy Oda’s impressive guitar chops. You can hear the influences for sure but there are also hints of PENTAGRAM, FRIJID PINK, BLUE CHEER etc…If you’re a fan of outsider hard rock & proto metal then you need this one for sure.
SEEFEEL – Everything Squared LP (Warp)
First new music in over a decade for Warp stalwarts SEEFEEL, who have seen some renewed interest due to recent reissues of their 90s work. Six tracks of deep, textured ambient rooted in sub-bass sound design and colored by eerie vocal samples. Excellent stuff!
36 – Dreamloops 4LP (Ba Da Bing)
Originally released on cassettes, this epic 4LP collection is the first ever vinyl release of “Dreamloops.” Longform drone pieces with plenty of tape hiss & time-stretched ambience. Imagine GAS records sans Beats, Vangelis scores stripped of their fidelity, PAYSAGE D’HIVER’s synth records & STARS OF THE LID.
