Written by HAYAO MIYAZAKI and directed by his son GORO. Suprisingly, there is no real fantasy in this film, just beauty, reverence, and Japan. Beautiful, moving, PRINCESS MONONOKE this is not but it is TOTALLY worth your time

Matador completes their collection of the Glasgow all-stars by signing MOGWAI to their roster.The Scotish 5-piece continue rolling out numbers to the down low. Working out of the more string accented influences of TORTOISE & the dynamic sleep walking approach of SLINT, MOGWAI add flutes, violin, piano & samples.

On their second MATADOR full length,Glasgow's MOGWAI expand & refine their sound in fine fashion. Broad strokes of dyanmic,mournful dissonance that are astoundingly beautiful in their simplicity. Use SLINT as a starting point,add to this a palate of string arrangements,banjos,& hypnotic keyboards with the occasional interlude for subtle vocal whispers...that is "Rock Action". Includes a guest spot from David Pajo (PAPA M/AERIAL M). Very recommended!

2006 release from Juana Molina, a singer/songwriter from Argentina with an absolutely beautiful voice. Her guitar playing style is very similar to Nick Drake's & her singing really just has to be heard. Her songs are haunting without seeming overtly 'dark.' Some of the treated backround vocals remind me of the excellent BJORK album "Vespertine." Fans of BJORK, BROADCAST, CAT POWER etc...really must hear this album.

Japan's MONO return in 2014 with a pair of complementary if divergent albums entitled "The Last Dawn" & "Rays of Darkness." The lighter of the two, "Last Dawn," sounds closer to previous MONO albums - intensely dramatic guitar atmospheres, tense orchestral arrangements & piano parts all building up to crushing crescendos of post-rock magnificence. The darker of the pair, aptly titled "Rays of Darkness" takes another line of attack entirely. Heavier, more elaborately sprawling, "Rays..." is by far the most metal-sounding album MONO have ever released. Roaring guest vocals from TESTSU FUKAGAWA (of ENVY) caps this relentlessly heavy assault. Excellent alone & incredible as a pair, both albums are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
