The long-awaited and rare boogie, disco & modern soul compilation, 'One Wish - South Carolina 1975-83', is finally here on double LP via Chicago label STILL MUSIC!

Vinyl reissue of this excellent album by the Denver based band MIDWIFE led by the talented Madeline Johnston. This was recorded at the former Denver DIY space Rhinoceropolis where Johnston used to live & make music. Similar to the 2020 Reckless favorite "Forever", this one is a mix of slow core & shoegaze & will appeal to fans of things like CODEINE, JESUS & MARY CHAIN, JESU Etc...

Over the past few years the Colorado based musician Madeline Johnston aka MIDWIFE has made some of our favorite records. "No Depression In Heaven" is her 4th album. Madeline is a true master of minimal composition with songs that are mostly just guitar & voice with some occasional drum boxes & synth. Her songs are filled with longing & sadness for people & things that disappear as we live our lives. Sons like Vanessa, a song about her dying van or Killdozer, a song about Marvin Heemeyer getting revenge on the town of Granby, Co by destroying as much of it with his suped-up bulldozer before committing suicide. There's a great version of the Roland S. Howard song Autoluminescent which she really makes her own here. Another amazing album from MIDWIFE. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Reckless fave Madeline Johnston (MIDWIFE) & Angel Diaz (Vyva Melinkolya) have teamed up for this fantastic 2023 album. If you're familiar with MIDWIFE then you'll have a good idea what this sounds like, minimal slowcore/shoegaze with bits of half-speed drone & sludge. Think JESU, NADJA, JESUS & MARY CHAIN 45s on 33 etc...RECOMMENDED.

2009 solo record from this OLD 97s fella largely drops the twang and instead focuses on strong pop/rock grooves and little flourishes.

"Puberty 2" is the 4th album from New Yorker Mitski Miyawaki which is pretty impressive considering that she's only 25 years old. The songs are pretty simple in structure, mostly based around simple guitar patterns that approached differently could have sounded like WEEZER or THE PIXIES. Instead the songs are drenched in synths & effects or arranged in a way that they sound more "outsider." This reminds us a little of the first single "Intern" from upcoming 2016 Angel Olsen album, the more accessible side of Jenny Hval, MAGNETIC FIELDS etc...
