INCREDIBLE REISSUE of the two Langley Schools Music Project LPs, recorded in 1976 & '77 by a Canadian music teacher, who had kids from the two schools record choral versions of pop hits from BOWIE, BEACH BOYS, FLEETWOOD MAC, WINGS, BEATLES, NEIL DIAMOND & more. Truly beautiful stuff privately pressed after they were recorded, but first brought to national attention after Bar/None Records released a CD of them in 2001. This 2LP set has TWO SONGS not on the CD release & is packaged as two separate LPs in one sleeve. SO, SO RECOMMENDED!!

Gentle, unraveling textures from harp experimentalist MARY LATTIMORE and WEYES BLOOD band member, composer and accordionist WALT McCLEMENTS. Meditative interplay between harp & accordion that makes for a rather pleasant listen. On Thrill Jockey.

Laurel Halo follows up her 2012 record, "Quarantine," with this stunning exercise in synthesizer worship. The deceptively organic intro "Dr. Echt" reminds us a digitized spirit once belonging to harpist Dorothy Ashby which only foreshadows the vast world that lies before us. "Chance Of Rain" is entirely instrumental and the layering, deconstructing and re-building of the arrangements places this record among the best electronic albums of the year. There is a lot to take in and the album art, which is a drawing by Halo's father from the 70s, shows gravediggers pulling up as well as burying coffins. This in not a simple rave record, the imagery is mysterious and dark. It threatens to propel you into the furthest regions of your sleeping consciousness and pull you out of the other end into your waking life washed anew. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The ridiculously prolific musician Adrianne Lenker has had a busy last few years. Her band BIG THIEF released two albums in 2019 & they leaped ahead to become one of the most critically acclaimed bands around. Then, like all of us it all came to a halt because of the pandemic. Thankfully for us she's used her time to make two more new records, "Songs" & "Instrumentals." The albums were written & recorded in a cabin in Western MA & her goal was to make music that sounded like the inside of an acoustic guitar & she's succeeded. These songs remind us more of the stripped-down almost freak folk of "UFOF" mostly just acoustic guitar & voice with a loose recording style with audible background noise & occasional talking. "Instrumentals" are two lengthy stream of consciousness songs that really sounds like exactly what they probably are, Lenker jamming in a cabin while the tape rolled.RECOMMENDED.
