Chicago's DEL REY are back after a lengthy absence due to 4 of the 5 members now being dads & most of their gear being stolen halfway through the recording process. "Immemorial" is a triumph for the group, with engineer (and now full-time DEL REY member) Jason Ward capturing all of the facets of the band on tape that make their live show so incredible. Throughout their career, band members have switched between instruments effortlessly giving the band's sound a great deal of variety & the icing on the cake has to be the double drumming action which has to be seen live to be believed. It also seems that the band has officially accepted their progressive & metallic tendencies with "Immemorial" featuring their heaviest riffs yet. So if you're into progressive instrumental music of any kind then you really need to hear this, especially if you're a fan of stuff like EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, DON CABALLERO, ZOMBIE, RADIOHEAD etc...

Daniel Bejar, the reluctant and somewhat ex-member of The New Pornographers has created a successful deterrent to his deserved fame with Your Blues. After "Streethawk: A Seduction"'s bowie-esque glam rock and the genuinely transcendent "This Night's" multi-layered and echo filled guitars of rainy sheen, Your Blues serves as the anti-Destroyer. Not quite the Metal Machine Music of our time, but here the guitars and rock element have been replaced with all synthesizers, acoustic guitars and almost invasive upfront vocals. Bejars intonation can drive some to wonder if he's joking and that's why this is so unreal and so wonderful. There's a flamboyancy that seems to fit more with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat than that of an indie rock band. This will affect you and take you over if you're willing to let it but preparation might be needed as well as an open mind. "God knows I'm trying" and Recommended!!!!
