"The Ruby Cord" completes a sort of album trilogy for English avant-folkie RICHARD DAWSON, going from past ("Peasant") to present ("2020") now to 500 years in the future. DAWSON builds a future world with sounds that branch to jazzy prog-folk, sparse electronics and glitches that seem to deconstruct his world's reality. Like other DAWSON LPs, "The Ruby Cord" is not for the faint of heart (or ear), but it will reward multiple listens, revelaing themes and sonic ideas deep within these compositions. RECOMMENDED.

Second album (finally) from this New York-based band is the first since 1998's classic underground slam- death slab "Prophecies Foretold" & is not too far off from its predecessor. Think SUFFOCATION (two members of which guest on this album) or INTERNAL BLEEDING.

Chicago's DEL REY are back after a lengthy absence due to 4 of the 5 members now being dads & most of their gear being stolen halfway through the recording process. "Immemorial" is a triumph for the group, with engineer (and now full-time DEL REY member) Jason Ward capturing all of the facets of the band on tape that make their live show so incredible. Throughout their career, band members have switched between instruments effortlessly giving the band's sound a great deal of variety & the icing on the cake has to be the double drumming action which has to be seen live to be believed. It also seems that the band has officially accepted their progressive & metallic tendencies with "Immemorial" featuring their heaviest riffs yet. So if you're into progressive instrumental music of any kind then you really need to hear this, especially if you're a fan of stuff like EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, DON CABALLERO, ZOMBIE, RADIOHEAD etc...
