First ever vinyl issue of Konami's legendary PC-8801 (later ported to Sega CD) masterpiece, SNATCHER. This is an early game directed by none other than Hideo Kojima of METAL GEAR fame. This is everything you want it to be- cyberpunk jams to accompany your adventures in the neon-lit back alleys of Neo Kobe City. This game has developed a rabid, cult like following, and copies of the Sega CD game go for around $400. Do yourself a favor and pick up this limited color version we've gripped from our friends at The YeTee before these are gone!

HIDE
Black Flame Ep (4 Trks) (ltd 500, #'d)
 cover
Joyful Noise
Chicago duo HIDE return with a 2nd 12" ep for Joyful Noise's white label series. Curated by JOAN OF ARC's TIM KINSELLA, this 4-track EP is hard-hitting, dark and catchy, especially '91 Lashes'. SETH & HEATHER show no sign of slowing down and this great 12" is another killer in their arsenal. GET IT!
Available at: Broadway and Milwaukee Ave.
New LP $14.99

WISHGIFT
Wishgift
 cover
Sophomore Lounge
Chicago's WISHGIFT blurs ferocious punk and bombastic prog like they're running through the mid-'80s SST catalog with zeal and aplomb. Long in the making, this LP will knock you down where you stand.
Available at: Milwaukee Ave. and Loop
New LP $13.99

TENNIS
Yours Conditionally (w/ Download)
 cover
Mutually Detrimental
TENNIS prefer to write while disconnected, & this LP was inspired by sailing the Sea of Cortez, sleeping in shifts & letting the sea (metaphorically) wash over them. Their sound is wide open & melodic, simple- sounding melodies floating in & out as if with the breeze itself. Understated & RECOMMENDED.
Available at: All Stores
New LP $17.99

REAL ESTATE
In Mind (gold Foil First Pressing) (w/ Download)
 cover
Domino
Hazy, beautiful & often surreal, Real Estate's sound is lustrous & symphonic. With influences ranging through generations of guitar pop, Real Estate's sound is unique in Indie Rock.
Available at: Broadway and Milwaukee Ave.
New LP $19.99

SPOON
Hot Thoughts (red Vinyl, Ltd 5000) (w/ Download)
 cover
Matador
"Hot Thoughts" is the 9th album by the long-standing indie rock group fronted by Britt Daniel. Spoon's songs are tight & efficient pop rock songs with simple arrangements, sort of like a modern take on Todd Rundgren or THE CARS. Sure, all of these artist would be considered "mainstream" but there is art in what they're doing & it's not just a product to be consumed. This one feels like a solid continuation of "They Want My Soul" as synths are once again used sparingly as nice background textures on the bass & drum driven indie rockin' tunes. This is another solid album from Britt & the band.
Available at: All Stores
New LP $18.99

OBERST, CONOR
Salutations (2lp) (w/ Download)
 cover
Nonesuch
A companion piece to Ruminations, Salutations is orchestrated reworkings of songs from that record as well as 7 brand new tracks, played with a large cast of friends & compatriots.
Available at: Milwaukee Ave. and Loop
New LP $24.99

NECROPHAGIST
Epitaph (reissue) (w/ Download)
 cover
Relapse
2017 reissue of this now-legendary album by NECRO- PHAGIST is welcome but a bit of a tease considering that when this was released in 2004 there was already considerable buzz from their debut "Onset of Putrefaction" (hence Relapse signing them) & this album & subsequent tours only added fuel to the fire. Then, they went on hiatus & haven't released anything since. Technical death metal fans look no further, the instrumental wizardry is legendary on "Epitaph," but without the prog leanings like clean singing, melodic breaks, etc. This is pure, guttural death but with incredible playing. The flashiness may turn some off but it really doesn't get much better than this for the genre.
Available at: Milwaukee Ave.
New LP $17.99

WITHOUT WAVES
Lunar (2lp)
 cover
Prosthetic
Heavy progressive metal from here in Chicago! WITHOUT WAVES run the gamut of prog, their individual abilities clear as day when they're able to get down n' dirty or float along with zero chugs. Expertly engineered at Bricktop Studios by PETE GROSSMAN & mixed by another Chicago staple, SANFORD PARKER. RECOMMENDED!
Available at: All Stores
New LP $21.99

ASH BORER
Irrepassable Gate (2lp, Embossed)
 cover
Profound Lore
Third full-length album from the talented West Coast black metal band ASH BORER. They've definitely stepped up their game on this one with chaotic tempo shifts, some blazing blast beats, oppressive atmosphere & brutal vocals. This kind of reminds us of the later ABSU records with more harsh singing. Good stuff.
Available at: Milwaukee Ave. and Loop
New LP $32.99

VASTUM
Carnal Law (remastered)
 cover
20 Buck Spin
Reissue of this great 2011 debut by the death metal group known as VASTUM. A nice mix of 90's death metal with some mid-tempo riffage, harsh vox & some melodic moments. Fans of DEATH, 90's Swedish death metal etc.... will like.
Available at: Broadway and Milwaukee Ave.
New LP $18.99

FALL SILENT
Cart Return (red/black Vinyl)
 cover
Revelation
2017 single from Reno's FALL SILENT! Wha!?! This kinda came out of nowhere, but the band has been playing their first shows since 2002-ish & has now released this four-track EP! Real quick: their 1999 & 2002 full lengths ("Superstructure" & "Drunken Violence" are two of the most underrated metallic hardcore LPs of the last 20 years, so this EP picks right back up, with their signature blend of blasts, groove, death metal & hardcore. Real tasty stuff, right here.

New 45 $6.99

CUBE
My Cube
 cover
Left Hand Path
CUBE is Oakland's ADAM KEITH who emerged from the underground Surface Tension parties. Noisy, lo-fi techno that is dissonant and jarrying, yet very hypnotic. A nice hybrid of noise, industrial, techno and something else altogether. Debut on Left Hand Path.

WHY?
Moh Lhean (colored Vinyl) (w/ Download)
 cover
Joyful Noise
Yoni Wolf aka WHY? has almost entirely distanced himself from his hip-hoppin' past. Sure there are beats on "Moh Lhean" but they sound more like the drum production on the first THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS album than a hip-hop album & that's TOTALLY FINE. WHY? has become a textured, pop project & Wolf's songs keep getting stronger & stronger. Fans of forward thinking pop music with cool production techniques will love this.

DIJKEMA, JOOST
Sacred Revelations
 cover
Twin Dimension
Twentysomething JOOST DIJKEMA from Goningen, the Netherlands, taught himself to play guitar & banjo around the age of 15 & soon developed a passion for the fingerpicking guitar technique, inspired by players like MICHAEL CHAPMAN, LEO KOTTKE & TOWNES VAN ZANDT. The nine songs on this album vary from heart- breaking, loner-folk songs to adventerous explorative instrumentals on the 6- & 12-string guitar without getting too experimental. HETA SALKALAHTI plays the fiddle, adding some layers on the title song, Cutting Loose & To Be Here No More. JOOST might well be the only young artist in the Netherlands doing this kind of fingerpicking, solo guitar stuff. Of course, we have to mention the awesome, collaborative artwork by PLASTIC CRIMEWAVE & SARA GOSSETT! RECOMMENDED.

New LP $19.99

IMMOLATION
Atonement (2lp, Ltd 300, Orange Vinyl)
 cover
Nuclear Blast
What else can we say about IMMOLATION? After 30 years in the death metal game, they're still coming up with some of the most intriguing material of their career, year after year. "Atonement" is yet another example of how to keep death metal fresh, but retain an identity: you know this is IMMOLATION, immediately. Fans of death metal: you need this! RECOMMENDED.

MEGA RAN (W/LOST PERCEPTION & R23X)
Black Materia (2lp) (white Vinyl)
 cover
YeTee
Ok, this is officially the coolest video game related slab of wax we have ever seen at Reckless. MEGA RAN is an officially licensed CAPCOM rapper, but this album is entirely based on the story of FINAL FANTASY VII. The original album was produced by LOST PERCEPTION and included actual samples of FFVII, which were re-orchestrated and arranged by DREAM CATALOGUE star producer R23X. The result is an amazing flood of nostalgia and a fitting tribute to one of the best RPGs of all time. The YeTee have done an amazing job with the packaging, featuring art by brilliant pixel artist Drew Wise. If you know who Cloud, Tifa, & Sephiroth are and you have even a passing interest in hip hop, this album is for you! Limited edition of heavy white vinyl, & of course H I G H L Y R E C O M M E N D E D ! ! !

JENCIK, MATT
Weird Times (imp)
 cover
Hands in the Dark
An icy terrain begins to form on this record. A place where large, shifting landmasses inch towards one another & drift apart. "Weird Times" is the solo debut by Chicagoan Matt Jencik who has performed with bands like IMPLODES, DON CABALLERO, SLINT, & CIRCUIT DES YEUX to name a few. Created with a sampling keyboard (Casio SK-5) and a laptop, "Weird Times" feels like a soundtrack for our uncertain days. Influences for the record refreshingly vary from minimalist composer Philip Glass to writers H.P. Lovecraft & Lovecraft devotee Laird Barron. Tracks like "Northland" & "Cosmic Horror" harp on Jencik's interests in shoegaze & feel like blackened and deconstructed SLOWDIVE instrumentals. If you enjoy horror movie soundtracks, contemporary classical music, or drone, atmospheric compositions "Weird Times" is the perfect cross-section of each.
Available at: Broadway and Milwaukee Ave.
New LP $14.99

BLACKOUT, MAC BAND
Burning Alive
 cover
Heavy Dose
2017 album from greasy noise-punks the MAC BLACKOUT BAND. These guys have a great combo of raunchy riffs, bad attitude, melody & just enough shredding guitar to push everything over the top. Power pop fans listen up! Very tasty treats from this Chicago band. RECOMMENDED!!
Available at: Loop
New LP $9.99

ORWELLS
Terrible Human Beings
 cover
Atlantic
Third album from Chicago-area rockers THE ORWELLS seems a little more straightforward than their previous albums, but in a way that's more "check out how catchy these songs are" than "we can't play our instruments," the latter of which is definitely NOT the case. Think PIXIES or WEEZER. Fun stuff from these Reckless faves!
